Abstract
Huge improvements in medical treatments in the past decades caused a dramatic increase in life expectancy and old person population. Therefore, growth in chronic conditions decreased life span quality, increased life expenses and moral pressure for elderly.
It is prognosticated that the elderlypopulation will rise by almost 10 million by 2019 in Iran and 80 percent of public health expenditure is paid for chronic diseases. Also elderly population are expected to be more prone to chronic diseases.
Diagnosis of illness alongside caducity and inflexibility dramatically alters their view and hope in of life and their selfsteem. The morbidity problems and life threatening diseases often confuse the elderly and his/her family. Despite acute conditions there is no exact future for chronic diseases accordingly patients and their family should be adapted to situation behaviorally, morally and socially since theywill face anxiety, depression and failure.
One of the big challenges in the preventive care field is, one can avert disabilithe futurefuture and maintain physical and psychological operation without being dependent on health care centers or other people.
Health care systems had impressively prevented diseases despite being incapable of preventing chronic disease problems which mainly occur in elderlly population.
How can one suffering from a chronic disease simultaneously have a healthier life?
Recently disease structure has dramatically changed and life management has received a higher priority, especially in chronic conditions.
Rehabilitation based on personal management programs and deployment of modern promising strategies with emphasis on patients’ self role in their own care, can be considered as part of the solution.
